LED-PREFERRED LIGHTED SIGN CABINET OPTIONS
LED is the preferred illumination method for most new illuminated cabinet signs because it supports efficient operation, reduced service demands, and long-term performance compared with older lamp-based systems. Sign Cabinets Inc. can build a wholesale illuminated sign cabinet as a single-face or double-face cabinet, with the access, face, finish, and mounting approach defined around the project.
A standard LED sign cabinet may use removable faces and retainers, slide access, or hinged access depending on service needs and cabinet design. For cabinet systems with routed aluminum faces and projecting acrylic, review our push-through letter signs page.
Common illuminated cabinet inputs include:
- Overall height, width, and cabinet depth
- Single-face or double-face construction
- LED illumination preference
- Face type and graphics responsibility
- Hinged or slide-access preference, when known
- Wall, pole, monument, or pylon application
- Mill/raw aluminum or outsourced powder coat using RAL color selection
- Power exit, connection fitting, and switch location
- Pickup, delivery, or freight destination

Electrical Assembly and Testing
Sign Cabinets Inc. performs in-house electrical assembly and wiring for finished illuminated cabinets. The team works with the customer on practical electrical details before production so the finished product is prepared for qualified field hookup.
01
Power exit and switch details
Electrical details should be specified before the quote is finalized whenever possible. Typical questions include where power should exit the cabinet, what connection location is expected, whether a sealed fitting or exterior box is needed, and where the switch should be located.
These details matter because an electric sign cabinet must work with the installer’s field conditions. Sign Cabinets Inc. can discuss cabinet-side constructability, but the customer and installer remain responsible for field power, local code requirements, mounting conditions, permits, and site-specific engineering.
02
Power-up testing before departure
Finished electrical products are powered before leaving the shop. Quality-control practices include review of final specifications, signed checkpoints during manufacturing, verification and recordkeeping for UL Listed electrical components where applicable, and power-up testing of finished electrical work.
For more detail on shop process, inspection, and UL boundaries, visit Manufacturing, Quality, and UL.
COMPARATIVE LIGHTING MATRIX
LED, Fluorescent, and Non-Illuminated Choices
Most new lighted sign cabinets should be specified with LED illumination. Fluorescent remains available by request for legacy or customer-specified work, but it is uncommon and not the preferred option for new cabinet projects.

Fluorescent
Available by request; not promoted as standard.

Non-illuminated
Better covered under general cabinet specifications.
Cabinet projects without internal lighting
If your customer specifically requests a fluorescent sign cabinet, include that requirement in the quote request so Sign Cabinets Inc. can review current feasibility and component needs.
STANDARDS & SCOPE CLARITY
UL ELIGIBILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY BOUNDARIES
Sign Cabinets Inc. operates an active UL sign-manufacturing program, subject to documented product eligibility and approved labeling scope. That does not mean every cabinet, component, kit, or configuration is automatically UL labeled.
STRICT CRITERIA FOR SCI UL LABELING
Eligible finished electrical products are wired in-house with appropriate components, inspected, tested, documented, and labeled through the applicable Sign Cabinets Inc. process. Customer-wired kits cannot receive an SCI UL label because the finished electrical product must be wired and inspected in-house.

Quick QUESTIONS
FAQ: Illuminated Cabinet Signs
How are illuminated sign cabinets lit?
Illuminated sign cabinets are typically lit internally, with the light source placed inside the cabinet behind the sign face. Sign Cabinets Inc. prefers LED illumination for most new work and can review fluorescent requirements when a customer specifically requests them.
Why is LED the preferred illumination option?
LED is preferred for most new cabinets because of power consumption, service needs, and longevity. Fluorescent remains available by request for legacy or customer-specified work.
Are all illuminated cabinets UL listed?
No. UL eligibility depends on the product, configuration, wiring, components, documentation, and labeling scope. Eligible finished electrical products wired and inspected in-house may be labeled through Sign Cabinets Inc.’s UL program, but not every item qualifies.
How are power exit and switch locations specified?
Sign Cabinets Inc. works with the customer before production to confirm the requested power exit, connection fitting or exterior box, connection location, and switch location. The qualified installer remains responsible for field power and hookup.
Who completes the field electrical hookup?
The customer’s qualified installer or electrical contractor completes field electrical hookup. Sign Cabinets Inc. delivers finished electrical products ready for qualified field connection, but site power, local code, permits, and installation remain customer-side responsibilities.
